Our shortlist came down to three cars—the BYD Sealion, the DENZA B5, and the Jaecoo J8. While the BYD is undeniably popular and more affordable, the road holding just didn't inspire confidence for us. Both the B5 and the J8 offered a significantly better, more planted ride. It was a tough decision, as my wife initially leaned towards the B5 for a fresh driving experience. However, we eventually chose the J8 because it struck the perfect balance between the two, and as a 5+2 seater, it made the most practical sense for our family's needs. I just collected the J8 today and am still getting familiar with all its tech. One immediate perk I've noticed switching from a saloon is the commanding view of the road—sitting higher and seeing further ahead is a game-changer. I've also observed that other drivers tend to keep a better following distance and don't tailgate as much compared to when I was driving my saloon, which is an unexpected safety bonus! I have been driving the BYD Sealion 8 for a while and am very impressed with what it offers. It feels powerful, comfortable, and refined, while providing plenty of space for family use. The high driving position gives it good road presence, and the minimalist interior looks modern without being overly complicated. The plug-in hybrid system is especially useful for daily commuting. For short trips, I can rely mainly on electric driving, while the petrol engine provides peace of mind for longer journeys. The driving experience is smooth and responsive, and the equipment level is very generous for the price.
