Citoren's Kris Meeke won the Guanajuato Rally Mexico on Sunday despite almost throwing victory away when he crashed off the road into a spectator car park less than a kilometre from the finish. It was the fourth career World Rally Championship win for Meeke, who finished 13.8 seconds ahead of second-placed Sebastian Ogier in his Ford Fiesta.
Meeke's victory means that the first three rounds of the World Rally Championship has now seen three different winners, and has elevated Meeke onto sixth in the championship standings. It was also Citroen's first win of the season with their new C3 rally car.
Ogier's second place finish saw him take over the lead in the overall standings, ahead of Toyota's Jari-Matta Latvala, who finished sixth in Mexico. The final podium place went to Belgian Thierry Neuville in his Hyundai i20. The next round of the World Rally Championship will take place on the French island of Corsica from 6th to 9th April.
