Official details of Lexus LF-A released
23 Oct 2009|4,527 views
The LF-A concept car was first revealed at the 2005 Detroit Motor Show, and the production version is finally expected to make its bow at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show. The car will not officially go on sale for another two years though, with the first car expected to be delivered in 2011.
The production version features some changes from the original concept car, including a new front end, redesigned taillights, and a three-tailpipe exhaust system. Other design details include a power-deployable rear spoiler and 20-inch BBS wheels outfitted with high performance Bridgestone tires.
The LF-A is expected to be powered by a 4.8 litre V10 engine with titanium valves, forged aluminium pistons, dry sump lubrication, and a titanium exhaust manifold. This allows the engine to put out 560bhp, and mated to a six-speed sequential transmission, the LF-A can go from 0-100km/h in 3.7 seconds and reach a top speed of 355km/h.
The LF-A is an extremely lightweight car, with Lexus going to great lengths to keep the weight down. Extensive use of carbon fibre means that the car should weigh around 1480kg, with a 48-52 front-to-rear weight distribution.
Lexus will only produce 500 units of the LF-A, thereby guaranteeing exclusivity, although word has it that a high performance version is in the works. More details are expected to be revealed closer to the car’s launch.
