The M3 GTS gets the same V8 engine as the standard M3, but the powerplant has been bored out to 4.4-litres, up from 4.0-litres. Power output has also been increased to 450bhp, an improvement of 36bhp, while the 7-speed M dual clutch transmission (M-DCT) with adapted shift patterns sends power to the 19-inch aluminium wheels wrapped in 225/35 front and 285/30 rear tyres.
The suspension has also been upgraded, with yellow springs used for a threaded suspension, while the rear axle support is bolted in place. There is also the huge rear wing that generates high levels of downforce, and is adjustable along with the front splitter for increased cornering precision and handling.
The M3 GTS has also been given a diet to shed weight from the already-lightweight standard M3. Measures such as light body-contoured seats, a new titanium rear silencer as well as the omission of air-conditioning and the rear seats help the M3 GTS to keep weight down. Rollover protection mounts were bolted on from the B-pillar while a fire extinguisher and a battery master switch/emergency shut-off preparation ensure safety.
The BMW M3 GTS is built on order only, and deliveries are expected to start in Germany from May 2010, with other countries to follow shortly after.
