The mid-engined roadster had an angry Scirocco front end, with the dimensions of a Mazda MX-5. Power was supplied by a 180 hp CommonRail Diesel, that could propel the little car to 100 km/h in less than 7 seconds.
Since the BlueSport was assembled using parts from other VW's, it was assumed that the car would soon go into production. VW even hinted that more powerful gasoline engines would be available in the new car. But sadly, corporate infighting has caused a delay in the BlueSport's production.
Since VW is the largest carmaker in the world, it's no surprise that there are several competing cars within Volkswagen's immense product portfolio.
A $30k roadster may directly affect the sales of the (soon to be released) Porsche Boxter. Needless to say, VW's newly acquired Porsche division, isn't happy with the VW BlueSport. Audi has also complained that a competing Volkswagen sports car would hurt the sales figures for its similarly sized, TT roadster.
Automobile Magazine reports that production of the VW BlueMotion concept has been put on the back burner. For now at least.
