Mercedes-Benz ends production of the CLS

The final car was a black CLS550 that is destined for a customer in America, with the AMG styling package, premium leather upholstery, and bi-xenon headlights among the equipment specified for the particular model.

The CLS was first previewed as the Vision CLS concept at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show, and launched in 2004 as a 'four-door coupe', a trend which would permeate into the range of its rivals. The CLS was a major success throughout its six year production life, going on to sell over 170,000 units worldwide.

The all-new Mercedes-Benz CLS is slated to be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September this year, with sales expected to start shortly after, before the end of the year. A series of V6 and V8 engines are expected to be made available, like the outgoing CLS.
