They say; "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery". And some of the world's biggest car companies are now imitating Tesla's electric sports car idea.
The latest electric sports car to surface is the Jaguar C-X75.
They're saying that the C-X75 is purely a concept car. And judging by the looks of the car, it's not likely to go into production. However, Jaguar did indicate that the car is a testing platform for their new electric propulsion system. So, we could see a variation of the electric powerplant in future Jaguar models.
The C-X75 has a bonded aluminium chassis, with a Venturi tunnel, & active airfoil, an aluminium body, and active aerodynamics. All of this adds up to a drag coefficent of just 0.32
The propulsion system consists of 4 195-bhp electric motors (one for each wheel, allowing for AWD), a plug-in Lithium-ion battery pack, and 2 94-bhp micro-gas turbines, which can either charge the batteries, or provide extra boost when the car is in track mode.
The total power output is 778 bhp with a torque of 1,180 lb-ft. Additionally, the century sprint is a stunning 3.4 seconds (the Tesla Roadster takes 4.0 seconds) while its top speed hits a respectable 330 kp/h
Range: 68 miles on batteries alone (w/ a 6-hour charge time), 560 miles using the turbines to charge the batteries.
The Jaguar C-X75 is one jaw-dropping electric-supercar. And hopefully the best bits will make it into production someday soon.
