Jaguar to recall the XJ for faulty wipers
28 Nov 2010|2,756 views
The move affects 6475 units of the XJ sold in the US that were manufactured between July 28, 2009 and November 3, 2010, and the problem lies with the windscreen wiper arms which weren't sufficiently torqued during assembly.
The American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said that during operation, the securing nuts could fail, resulting in a loss of synchronization and ultimately lead to a clash of the wiper arms. Furthermore, the wipers could detach from the car and leave the driver blind in the rain.
As such, the NHTSA has issued a recall of the affected cars, and ordered Jaguar dealers to check if the wipers arms are fitted correctly onto the spindle and make sure that the securing nuts are tightened. Jaguar will also fix the problem for owners free of charge. The exercise is expected to begin in the US on December 13, 2010, and affected owners can contact Jaguar for more details.
