Reports are suggesting that Maserati have designed a baby Quattroporte named the Levante to rival the likes of the BMW 5 Serries. The Levante is widely expected to make its world debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2013. Given the codename M157, the Levante will make use of the same platform that underpins the Chrysler 300 sedan. According to Autocar, the Levante will share the exact same 120.2-inch wheelbase as the 300.
Levante’s styling iis expected to adopt many of the styling cues of the Kubang SUV.
In terms of powertrain, the Levante will be fitted with a version of Chrysler’s 3.6 litre Pentastar V6 with approximately 400bhp. Maserati is also planning to offer the Levante with a diesel V6 and a performance-minded V8. All engines will be hooked to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
If the launch and subsequent plans pans out as expected, the Levante will go on sale in late 2013 or early 2014.
