Nissan rekindles talk of sports car to sit below 370Z

The success of the Toyota GT 86/Subaru BRZ or affectionately known as 'Toyobaru' has been noticed by other automakers and has provoked their thoughts. Nissan, for one, is reported to be developing a smaller sports car to slot below its 370Z, although their plans to develop a lightweight coupe has been on and off over the years.
In an interview given to Car & Driver in Detroit at NAIAS, Nissan's Vice President Andy Palmer said a new smaller sports car is in the works and will be that type of car "you love it or hate it." He did not go into the specifics but mentioned a concept model will be unveiled for a preview within a year.
Sitting beneath the GT-R and the 370Z, this new sports car will not be a direct 'Toyobaru' rival as it will take a more youth-oriented approach - much like the Juke. Since Palmer said it will be a "guilt-free" car, it may well be an EV.
