ME.WE is Toyota's pre-crisis response to motoring
25 Apr 2013|3,961 views
Pertinence; Synthesis; Modernity - the three primary factors that led to the ME.WE concept. Toyota wanted an external influence from outside the automotive industry and, hence, sought the expertise of renowned architect and designer firm Massaud.
As the name suggests, ME.WE conceptualises a blend of personal well being (ME) and that of others (WE). It symbolises a change in personal mobility - flexibility of owning a pick-up, convertible off roader and city car all at once.
ME.WE's chassis utilises a tubular aluminium frame, with light, weather resistant polypropylene panels which are both cost efficient to manufacture and easy to personalise.
The car's weight is targeted at 750kg - around 20 percent lighter than a conventional supermini constructed out of steel. Other eco-friendly adoptions include a floor made out of bamboo, and 100 percent recyclable body panels.
The ME.WE is powered by electric in-wheel motors, which allow it to be driven by two or four wheels. With batteries positioned under the floor, interior space is freed for occupants and luggage carrying. The rear bench is mounted on floor rails, and can be removed from the car for greater load lugging.
To achieve the 'wind-in-your-hair' experience, all windows including the windscreen can be opened.
