Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited has been appointed Daimler's distributor in the Myanmar market for Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi Fuso vehicles.

Daimler AG is poised to enter Myanmar in the passenger car and commercial vehicle sectors.

It has appointed Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited, a subsidiary of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited ('Jardines'), as its distributor in the market, responsible for the marketing, sale and aftersales of Daimler's flagship Mercedes-Benz and Mitsubishi Fuso vehicles. Jardines currently represents Daimler in several other Asian markets.

Myanmar is the last of the frontier markets in ASEAN. The country's recent move towards full democracy has been recognised by the U.S., and recently by the European Union which permanently ended sanctions against Myanmar this week. This a clear sign of the strengthening of international support for the long-isolated Southeast Asian nation. With a population of over 55 million, Myanmar is attracting much investor interest. With fewer than seven vehicles per 1,000 inhabitants and no other luxury brands currently represented, the market has huge potential.

Mr. Wolfgang Huppenbauer, President & CEO of Daimler South East Asia said, "Daimler is delighted to be entering Myanmar, through our partnership with Jardine Cycle & Carriage. Myanmar completes our footprint in ASEAN - we are now present in every market in the region. The vehicle market in Myanmar is still in its infancy and the opportunities are very exciting. Mercedes-Benz is synonymous with quality and luxury and together with Mitsubishi Fuso, we are very positive about the prospects in the market. In Jardines, we have the best of class partner who is fully aligned and committed to our joint success."
