Cracked rail replaced and under investigation

A cracked section of the track between Somerset and Orchard stations has been replaced.
SMRT issued a statement last evening, saying that the delay on 29th April was due to a crack found in the track section between the two stations. The fault has triggered a track circuit break and activated a safety mechanism in the signalling system. G-clamps were temporarily installed to secure the joint.
As a safety precaution, trains travelling over the affected stretch were required to reduce speeds.
The fault section has since been replaced and train speeds were resumed from Tuesday morning. SMRT added that the cause of the crack is still being investigated.
