The third type of oil additive is blessed with the ability to disperse contaminants. The most common contaminant found in the engine is soot, a by-product of combustion. Additives with dispersing capabilities can prevent the coagulating of soot, hence ensuring that the engine operation is free from obstructions. 

Advancement of technology has made it possible for oil additives to boast more than one function. Besides, the range of products available also allows users to find one that better fits their individual requirements. With lesser friction, the engine can perform at higher efficiency, hence translating into less emission, as well as costs savings from parts replacement and fuel costs.

The wide variety of engine oil additives in the market may confuse even the discerning motorists. While it is important to find a product which meets both mechanical and budget requirements, it is crucial that one chooses a reliable product which will bring real benefits to their cars.

Conventional additives are mostly Teflon or polymer based. These additives increase the oil fluency of the base lubricant, thus ensuring that engine components are better lubricated. However, these additives are generally less durable and more susceptible to the increase in pressure in the environment, which make them less effective.
