IED Turin students recreate Cisitalia 202 as concept model for Geneva

For the ninth-year running, the up-and-coming designers at Italy’s Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) based in Turin will be showcasing a new concept car at the Geneva Motor Show. Their latest project is the 2012 Cisitalia 202 E (E stands for Evolution), which is essentially a modern day remake of the classic 1947 Cisitalia 202.
Regarded by many as the template from which all great sports cars were born, the 1947 Cisitalia 202 is undoubtedly one of the most important automobiles in history. Designed by Battista "Pinin" Farina, it was honoured by New York's Museum of Modern Art in 1951.
Handling the design work is a team of students undertaking the Master of Arts in Transportation Design program run by the IED.
The 202 Evolution has a rear mounted V8 engine producing 450hp, as compared to the original 202 which produced 60hp. Weighing only 354 kg, the Cisitalia 202 was able to reach a top speed of 160 km/h.
