If you answered Carbon Fibre, you're right!
At this year's Paris Motor Show, Lamborghini showed off a concept car called the Sesto Elemento. It had a dramatic shape, an insane 0-100 time, and more exotic material than a bathroom in Dubai.
But, perhaps the most amazing thing about the Sesto Elemento was its weight™or, lack thereof.
The "technological demonstrator" weighed in at just 999 kg's. And that's with 4-wheel drive, and a 570-hp V10!
The reason for this ultra-light weight was Lamborghini's extensive use of exotic materials, namely carbon fibre.
And as it turns out, the raging bull had some help in developing the technology that it took to build the car. That help came from none other than golf club maker Callaway.
The two companies started working together after company researchers met at the University of Washington. Once they determined that the two entities wouldn't be in competition. They co-developed the technology behind the new material called Forged Composite.
Forged Composite differs from traditional carbon fibre in that it's able to be reduced to a paste and injected into a mold, whereas carbon fibre comes in sheets.
Per square inch, the new material contains 500,000 microscopic carbon fibres that are intertwined, giving it an extremely high threshold for withstanding extreme forces.
Callaway is planning to launch a premium line of golf clubs, with heads made from the new material. They say the new material allows a golfer to drive a ball up to 8 yards further than with a traditional titanium club.
Lamborghini hasn't announced how they plan to use the new material. But, given the cost effectiveness of the new material, it should find its way into a raging bull in the near future.
