Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the latest members of its G-Class family in Singapore at G-Haus, a specially curated event which will be open to members of the public from 1 to 3 August 2025 at Gillman Barracks.
Visitors will be able to experience the dynamism of the G-Class at the G-Experiences station, which will also enable them to create their own souvenir luggage tag/bag charm. They can also shop for merchandise at the G-Haus Boutique and enjoy bites from the G-Cafe by ATIPICO.
More importantly, visitors to G-Haus will be able to explore and learn more about the G500, G580, and G63 AMG - the newest members of the G-Class family in Singapore.
The 'G' in G-Class stands for 'Gelandewagen' or 'cross-country vehicle'. First produced in 1979, it is Mercedes' first and oldest passenger SUV. With their roots in military vehicles, G-Class models are built on a ladder frame chassis to help ensure toughness and improve off-roading capabilities by increasing the ground clearance.
The tall and boxy body of the G-Class has become its trademark, so this has been left untouched. Also unchanged are the numerous components that fans have come to expect to see on the SUV. These include round head lights, large indicator lights on the front fenders, and the door handles.
Mercedes even ensured that the feel of the doors as they are opened and closed, along with the unique sound they make, continue to be present.
The front grille of the G500 features four horizontal louvres instead of three, while the G580 has an illuminated black panel grille. Both the front and rear bumpers have been redesigned in a 'squircle' shape, and the rear camera has a washer nozzle to help keep it clean.
Numerous exterior options such as the Professional Line Exterior, and Exclusive Line Exterior, are available for customers who wish to customise their G-Class.
In contrast to the rugged exterior, the G-Class's interior is full of luxurious refinements that include surfaces upholstered in Nappa leather, a steering wheel with haptic controls, and a Burmester 3D Surround Sound audio system.
For the first time, all G-Class variants are equipped with the Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) system that features a 12.3-inch instrument panel and 12.3-inch touchscreen display for the infotainment. MBUX has a voice assistant that is activated with the command, 'Hey Mercedes'.
The new G-Class range starts with the G500, which is powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre inline-six that produces 443bhp and 560Nm of torque.
The G580 stands out with its illuminated black panel grille with a pair of louvres on either side of the three-pointed star
Operating alongside it is a 48-volt mild hybrid system, whose integrated starter-generator makes another 20bhp and 200Nm of torque. Despite weighing in at 2,485kg, the G500 can still reach 100km/h from a standstill in 5.4 seconds.
Aimed at drivers who want all the capability of a G-Class without the hefty fuel consumption is the G580 with EQ Technology, the very first all-electric G-Class model. Like its petrol-driven siblings, the G580 is also built on a ladder frame and has an identical angular body.
However, instead of one or two electric motors, the G580 has four - one located near each wheel. They deliver 432kW (579bhp) and 1,164Nm of torque, figures that enable the G580 to complete the century sprint in 4.7 seconds.
Said motors are fed by a 116kWh lithium-ion battery integrated into the frame. Such a large capacity was needed to give the 3.085-tonne G580 a WLTP driving range of 491km. Thanks to the quad-motor setup, the G580 can perform what Mercedes calls a 'G-Turn', which spins the left and right-side wheels in opposite directions, spinning the G580 on the spot to enable it to get out of dead ends without making a three-point turn.
The G580 also features G-Steering, which reduces the turning circle by controlling the drive torque at the individual driven wheels, so that the vehicle turns around the inside rear wheel. It's like having a fancy handbrake turn function.
In addition to all-wheel drive, G-Turn and G-Steering, the G580 features 'Intelligent Offroad Crawl' too, which is activated whenever Low Range off-road gear reduction is active.
The top-of-the-line model is the G63 AMG. Beneath its bonnet is a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 pumping out 577bhp and 850Nm of torque. Driven in anger, the G63 can hit the century mark in 4.3 seconds, and with enough unrestricted road, top out at 240km/h when equipped with the AMG Performance Package.
Prices for the G500 and G580 currently start from $782,888, while the G63 is priced from $1,062,888. All figures are inclusive of COE.
Fans and would-be buyers alike who wish to visit G-Haus and view the G500, G580, and G63 can do so from 1 to 3 August 2025 at 9 Lock Road, Gillman Barracks, Singapore 108937. G-Haus is open from 09:30am to 06:30pm.
