Jaguar Land Rover has launched its fifth new product in Singapore this year with the new Land Rover Discovery. Featuring a distinctive design language and an intelligently packaged interior, Land Rover's latest addition embodies the spirit of adventure that has characterised the marque for more than 30 years.
The character and revised proportions of the new Discovery reflect more than three decades of design evolution. The Discovery's traditional DNA design elements, which include the clamshell bonnet, stepped roof, and highly visible C-pillar remain on the latest Discovery.
Signature LED head lights with daytime running lights create a more purposeful look, while animated sweeping front and rear indicators provide heightened visual sophistication. The body-coloured front fenders also accentuate the premium SUV's familiar waistline.
At the rear, the New Discovery features LED taillights, which are joined by a new Gloss Black panel. Following Land Rover's reductive design philosophy, the panel incorporates the trademark Discovery script, creating a cleaner appearance.
Visually, the R-Dynamic variant brings a more assertive character and purposeful stance with a series of unique design elements, including Gloss Black and Shadow Atlas exterior accents on the outside, and two-tone leather seats on the inside.
Under the bonnet, the New Discovery features a new straight-six 3.0-litre Ingenium petrol engine capable of 355bhp and 500Nm of torque. Alongside a four-cylinder 2.0-litre engine generating 296bhp, both engines come with a new Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system and 48V mild-hybrid technology for enhanced efficiency and performance.
Air suspension comes fitted as standard, providing a cosseting ride in all environments, and features automatic lowering to improve aerodynamic efficiency and enhance economy when cruising on the highway. Adaptive Dynamic dampers, which are also standard-fit, monitors vehicle movements up to 500 times a second, adjusting to driver inputs and road conditions almost instantaneously for a smooth, flat ride.
With Terrain Response 2 technology, the New Discovery is primed to suit all driving conditions, be it in the wet or off-road. Configurable Terrain Response allows drivers to fine-tune the Discovery's throttle characteristics, as well as steering and suspension settings to suit their preferences for off-road driving.
Inside, the New Discovery benefits from enhancements designed to accentuate the craftsmanship of its full-sized seven-seater layout, with a spacious cabin incorporating Land Rover’s cutting-edge Pivi Pro infotainment system. A redesigned centre console houses a 11.4-inch full HD touchscreen, which is 48% larger than its predecessor.
With a simplified menu structure and user-centric design, Pivi Pro boasts lightning-quick responses even when starting the vehicle. Its built-in backup battery means that initialisation takes mere seconds, and the intuitive menus allow the most commonly used functions to be accessed within a few presses.
In combination with the 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display, the New Discovery projects high-definition 3D mapping directly onto the instrument cluster, leaving the central touchscreen free to control other applications. The high-resolution digital instruments can be individually configured, allowing drivers to customise the layout.
Customers can also opt for a full-colour head-up display, placing high-resolution driving information directly within the driver's line of sight.
First-rate convenience is a hallmark of the new Discovery. Its hands-free Gesture Tailgate opens the boot when it detects motion beneath the rear bumper, while the Inner Tailgate restrains loose items in its cavernous 2,391-litre loading space. Even with all seven seats in use, the boot provides 258 litres of luggage space. Intelligent Seat Fold technology allows customers to remotely configure the seating layout using the central touchscreen.
The new Land Rover Discovery is now available for viewing at Wearnes' Land Rover showroom.
