Two men to appear in court on charges of dangerous driving

Two men will appear in court on Thursday on charges of dangerous driving and participation in an unauthorised speed trial, reported The Straits Times.

The pair, aged 25 and 26, were caught in a joint operation by the Traffic Police and Land Transport Authority over New Year's Eve and New Year's Day. They were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving at an illegal racing hot spot along Seletar Link.

Investigations showed that one of the men had been driving a blue Nissan GT-R sports car at a speed of more than 140km/h. The speed limit in Seletar Link is 60km/h.

If convicted of dangerous driving, they each face fines of up to $3,000 or jail of up to 12 months, or both. They face a prison term of up to six months and fines of up to $2,000 should they be convicted of taking part in an unauthorised speed trial. Vehicles involved in the offence may also be confiscated.

In a statement to the media, the Traffic Police said they would continue to conduct enforcement operations to crack down on such dangerous driving to ensure the safety of road users.
