Vettel effortlessly wins Belgian GP ahead of Alonso by a colossal 16 seconds

An effortless move by defending world champion, Sebastian Vettel, with his RB9, saw him cruising up to pole setter Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes and overtaking the Brit for the lead in the middle of the first lap. And from that moment, there was nothing to stop the three time world champion from crossing the line at the end of 44 laps. Fernando Alonso finished second - a staggering 16.9 seconds away from the Blue-Purple hued racer - while crossing the line at the dance of the chequered flags in third was pole setter Lewis Hamilton - a further 27.7 seconds from the German.

By utilising the DRS system on the fourth lap, he passed Jenson Button's McLaren for fourth place and once again performed an overtaking manoeuvre - this time at Nico Rosberg at lap six for third place.
Pole setter Lewis Hamilton did not have the straight line speed when compared to Red Bull, Lotus or Ferrari. More often, overtaking attempts at drivers like Alonso or Grosjean did not end well with the other cars easily outpacing the Silver Arrows.
For a sport that is obsessed with precision and statistics, this was Hamilton's 54th finish, which ties him with one of the greatest and team board member, Niki Lauda.
After an extended and snoozy battle with Felipe Massa in the other Prancing Horse, Lotus' star driver Kimi Raikkonen retired from eight place with what seemed to be a front brake problem after 25 laps.
Paul di Resta and Pastor Maldonado of Force India and Williams team respectively had a contact, which saw the retirement of the former at the 28th lap. With four cars going around the corner Maldonado had to point his nose at the rear of di Resta. The impact damaged the Williams front wing, which was fixed after a trip to the pits.
Vettel continues to lead the championship board with 197 points over Alonso with 151 and Hamilton with 139 points. While Red Bull lead the constructors championships at 312 points, Mercedes and Ferrari trail behind at 235 and 218 points respectively.
The high octane action returns next week at Ferrari's home ground of Monza, Italy.

Despite starting at ninth place, Alonso, as seen in a recent number of races, quickly build up pace and over took as many cars on the grid as possible before the first turn and eventually settled at fifth.
