My 14th car. My first EV. And quite possibly the best car I've owned. After owning 14 cars, including a BMW 7 Series, I've experienced my fair share of luxury, comfort and driving refinement. So I wasn't expecting my first EV to impress me quite this much. Then came the AVATR 07. From the moment I get behind the wheel, the car gives me an immediate sense of confidence and calmness. It feels composed, refined and remarkably comfortable, making every journey feel effortless. The distinctive steering wheel may look unconventional at first, but in everyday driving, I've found it surprisingly intuitive and relaxing. The auto parking features make daily driving even easier. Whether I'm parking in a tight space or manoeuvring in a busy car park, the AVATR 07 can assist with the process smoothly and confidently. It's a feature that adds genuine convenience and makes the car feel even more effortless to live with. What really stands out is the level of comfort. The Zero Gravity front seats, ventilation and massage functions transform the cabin into something that feels closer to a luxury lounge than a conventional SUV. The ride comfort is exceptional, and for me, it has genuinely surpassed what I experienced with my previous BMW 7 Series in terms of sheer comfort. Then there's the technology. The 800V electrical architecture delivers impressively fast charging, making EV ownership far more convenient than I initially expected. It's one of those features you appreciate more and more once you live with the car. But beyond the specifications and technology, what has surprised me most is simply how relaxed I feel driving it. We came from a BMW, and in the days leading up to changing cars, we constantly questioned ourselves about whether we were making the right decision. However, within the first two days of driving the AVATR 07 Max, we knew that we had made the right one. Compared to a continental car at the same price point, we are getting A LOT of car and tech for our money. * The exterior styling is unique and futuristic, with a hint of elegance through its clean, sculpted body design — what AVATR terms "quiet luxury." * Many of the interior panels are lined with soft leather, something you'd normally only find in the higher-end BMWs and Mercedes. It is not something you immediately notice visually, but once your fingers run along those surfaces, you know you are in for a pampered ride. * The front two seats come with a massage function and a "Zero Gravity Mode" that allows you to fully recline and rest while waiting for passengers or charging the car. * Passengers sit comfortably in the rear like "towkays" and sometimes comment that they feel like they are sitting in a business-class seat. * The driver's seating position is commanding, with a clear view of the crisp 35.4-inch 4K panoramic display. This largely eliminates the need for a projected head-up display. This brings us to the very "misunderstood" squircle-shaped steering wheel. Most people would think it was designed purely for futuristic aesthetics. In fact, it is a deliberate and functional design that allows the driver to have a direct line of sight to the panoramic display. Surprisingly, the steering wheel is very easy to get used to. (Hey! F1 car steering wheels are "squircle"-shaped too!) * The drive of the AVATR 07 is quiet and comfortable. Words cannot do the driving experience justice — you really have to try it for yourself. It is a car that simply makes you want to drive in a relaxed and calm manner. Like most buyers considering the AVATR 07, the Zeekr 7X was the only real contender for us. We chose the AVATR 07 over the 7X for its coupe-like styling, comfortable drive, and interior creature comforts. More importantly, we knew this was a car that would put a smile on our faces whenever we walked towards it, before beginning our pampering journey from within.
