A driver held up other motorists at the Lot One Shoppers' Mall car park for about an hour on Sunday evening, after she had problems over free parking and refused to budge, reported the Straits Times. The police had to be called in to get things moving in the incident, which was captured in a video posted on citizen journalism website Stomp.
It all started when the driver of a silver car got stuck when trying to leave the car park of the mall at around 9:00pm on Sunday. The car park barrier did not lift for the shopper, who was entitled to free parking at the mall, a spokesman for Lot One told the local paper. She said it was because the driver's details had not been updated in the mall's system. "The driver then called for help and was attended to by our security staff and mall colleagues who quickly lifted the barrier for her, while promising to look into her complimentary parking privileges," she added.
But the shopper apparently wanted the technical glitch to be rectified on the spot, said eyewitness Melvin Ho. "The cars behind were honking at her, some drivers got out of their cars to offer her their CashCards. Others whipped out their mobile phones to take photos and videos of her and hurled abusive remarks at her," added Mr. Ho.
The woman refused to leave even when the police arrived. She only drove off after the police said that she could be arrested. Lawyer Gloria James said that the driver could be charged with being a public nuisance or obstructing a police officer in carrying out his duty.
