The production car version of the Cruze hatchback is similar to the concept, with minor details such as the LED strips on the front bumper, the blue-tinted headlamps and the clear crystal tail lights removed. Boot capacity of the Cruze hatchback is 400 litres, 50 less than the sedan.
Engine options are expected to be the same as the sedan, which means that the Cruze hatchback will have a 1.6-litre petrol engine with 111bhp, a 1.8-litre petrol unit with 139bhp, and a 2.0-litre diesel that produces 148bhp. Chevrolet has also announced that the 2.0-litre diesel with 163bhp from the Orlando MPV will be offered for the Cruze hatchback as well.
Chevrolet intends to leverage on the Cruze's success in the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC), which it won last year, to cement the Cruze as a worthy competitor in the European family car segment, and the Cruze hatchback is meant to appeal to the Europeans‘ fondness of the hatchback body style, as opposed to the sedan which is more popular in Asia and America.
