The 102EX has two electric motors of 145kW each, and a lithium-battery pack, which uses five lithium-cobalt-manganese-oxide NCM "pouch cells" sized at four, eight, ten, thirty-six, and thirty-eight cells in a formation that mimics the shape of the usual engine and transmission.
Three individual 3kW chargers allows for both single-phase and three-phase charging at 20 hours and 8 hours, respectively, while Rolls-Royce is also trying out induction charging, which uses a giant transfer pad on the floor and an induction pad under the car.
In total, the Rolls-Royce 102EX produces 389bhp and 800Nm of torque, compared to 453bhp and 750Nm in the standard Phantom. Rolls-Royce estimates the range of the 102EX to be around 200km, with a limited top speed of 160km/h.
The show car at Geneva features a number of features that are unmistakably Rolls-Royce, and a few that showcase the new technologies underneath. The car is painted in four coats of Atlantic Chrome, a shade of paint that uses ceramic Nano particles to provide a unique reflective surface. The Sprit of Ecstasy badge on the nose is now made of Makrolon, instead of stainless steel, and can be illuminated.
The fuel cap has also been modified to provide a charging point with LED indicators that show the current charge status such as blue (initial stage), flashing blue (charging), green (fully charged), flashing green (when the charging solenoid is removed), and red or flashing red to indicate a problem in the system.
The interior is also bathed in Atlantic Chrome, with the car's gauges modified to provide the electric drive train's information, such as gauges for battery charge level, power reserve, etc. There is also a switch in the front centre armrest that controls charging and houses a readout showing the car's charge status. Corinova leather, which uses a "natural vegetable tanning process", is chosen for the upholstery, and the interior is 100% chrome-free and uses an aluminized foil weave instead of wood.
