Porsche net operating profit tripled in 2010

Porsche sales over the fiscal year August to December 2010 stood at 3.867 billion euro, a 59 per cent increase over the previous year, while the net operating profit was 688 million euro, which is triple the amount recorded the previous year, where Porsche returned a net operating profit of 227 million euro from August to December 2009. Return on sales from operations also went up by 17.8 per cent. Backed by this sales growth, Porsche has created more jobs, and as at 31 December 2010, the headcount of 13,159 employees was up 3.4 per cent on the figure seen as of 31 July 2010.

"The short fiscal year was an exceedingly successful year in terms of sales, turnover, and profit," says Matthias Muller, chairman of the Porsche AG board of management. "This success supports our position as one of the most profitable sports car manufacturers worldwide and gives us the flexibility required for continued investments in our products."

Lutz Meschke, a Porsche AG board member in charge of finance, is also pleased about the positive development of the company: "Once again, we increased return on sales and cash flow and in doing so underline the financial robustness of the company. Porsche is well equipped for future growth." In comparison with the same period in 2009, sales rose by 56.6 per cent to 40,446 vehicles. From August to December 2010, Porsche produced 41,949 vehicles which equates to an increase of 18 per cent in comparison with the same period of the previous year.
