Probably one of the lesser heard names, the 47-year old does have pretty good credentials - working at Ford Europe on models such as the Focus and Mondeo and then the Boxster, Cayman and 918 Spyder over at Porsche.
In his new position as Chery's Design Director, he will oversee the styling direction of a variety of new models from the company's design centre in Shanghai. Speaking to Automotive News, Saracoglu said, "The company is redefining itself. Chery is standing for value, for design and gaining customer confidence. That's where we want to go."
Saracoglu joins a few other designers who have snapped up jobs in China as the salaries offered are reportedly as much as three times higher than in Europe or the U.S. When asked about his salary, Saracoglu declined to answer but hinted, "Let's say I'm not unhappy."
Can money buy better design? We sure hope so and expect more to come from China automakers.
