BMW's i-sub brand could get expanded line up

Currently the i-brand has conceptualised the i3, i3 coupe, i8 and i8 spyder - all in concept guise. Yet according to a U.K. source, the i-brand could offer a mid-size sedan on top of an MPV similar to the Concept Active Tourer plug-in hybrid.

Apparently electric crossovers akin to the X3 or X5 will not be feasible as BMW's LifeDrive architecture is deemed to be inappropriate.

Technology featured in the i-brand could also be carried over by the Bavarian marque in its conventional lineup - like the petrol-electric hybrid powertrain found in the above mentioned BMW Concept Active Tourer and the stylish i8.

The i3 hatchback and i8 hybrid all-wheel drive sports car are primarily case studies and will be used to judge market reaction. The cars on either scale will also demonstrate what's possible with BMW's i-brand, drivetrains and production processes.
