18-year old Mustaqim Mohamed was cycling home from Selarang Camp when an accident left him severely injured and unconscious on a pavement along Loyang Way.
The full-time national serviceman was sent to the Changi General Hospital, where he was immediately operated on but did not regain consciousness. He died from his injuries on Friday, 28th March.
Mustaqim's devastated family is now appealing for witnesses. They told The Straits Times that they wanted to find out what exactly happened in the accident so that they can have a peace of mind.
There were at least four accidents which involved cyclists in the past week, and possibly the second hit-and-run following the incident last Saturday in which a cyclist was hit along Lornie Road. He was sent to the hospital and was discharged on the same day.
While it is unknown how many cases of cycling fatalities took place in the first few months of this year, 14 such accidents took place last year - a slight decrease from 16 in 2012 and 15 in 2011.
