Audi A6, S6 and RS6 recalled for potentially cracked valve nipple
11 May 2011|5,348 views

A total of 5,992 cars are being recalled, and the problem lies with a problem with the cars’ rollover valve nipple. Audi informed the NHTSA that “the aging of the plastic material in the fuel tank rollover valve combined with bending stress from the aluminium ventilation line to the rollover valve nipple may lead to cracking of the nipple”.
Audi adds that the problem could lead to a fuel leak and possibly a vehicle fire if there’s an ignition source. The German carmaker will inform owners of the affected cars, and begin to fix the problem by reinforcing the nipple on the rollover valve and if necessary, repair any cracks.
The recall exercise was initiated by Audi and the American National Highway Traffic Safety Administration [NHTSA], and involves Audi A6s, Audi S6s and Audi RS6s built from June 19, 2001, to June 8, 2004, and fitted with Audi’s 4.2-litre V8 engine.
