Bentley Mulliner now offers bespoke animated welcome lamps

Puddle lights that simply display a brand's logo - even if it's one as enviable as an ultra-luxury marque - are becoming too run-of-the-mill.
At least that's what some Bentley owners might think in the future, after they've opted for the latest tech feature to be unveiled by Bentley Mulliner: Bespoke animated welcome lamps.
Originally introduced on the gorgeous, coachbuilt Batur, Bentley states that the feature makes the first automotive application of digital light processing.
Taking the idea of individualisation to never-seen-before heights, the curated animation consists of two main parts: An initial introduction sequence when you swing the door of your brand-new Bentley open, followed by a looped animation that projects continuously.
As for what exactly you might want to animate, Bentley shares that an in-house animation designer stands at the ready to work with customers in bringing their curated desires to life, with examples cited including features from the exterior or cabin (such as personalised embroidery) to add further cohesion to your bespoke Bentley.
If you care to understand how this all works, Bentley has also generously revealed the technology powering these bespoke animation lamps.
It's quite the complex and multi-layered process; in all, three coloured light sources project through five different lenses and two prisms into what Bentley calls an Digital Micromirror Device (measuring an expectedly-micro 8mm by 8mm). What results is a light signal, which is then funnelled through another five lenses to result in the animation that greets those who open the car's doors.
Bentley states that this latest feature marks the next step for the brand as it continually works towards "greater curated experiences through digital craftsmanship".
