BMW adds new engines to 1-Series range

The baby of the BMW lineup, the 1-Series, is set to receive new engines and a couple of special editions for 2010.

The new engines will be added to the Coupe versions, and will be badged 120i and 118d. The three and five door hatchbacks will get new Lifestyle and Sport special editions.

The 120i Coupe will have a 2.0 litre fuel injected 4-cylinder engine which will develop 170bhp and 210Nm of torque, which is good enough for a 0-100km/h time of 7.8 seconds and reach a top speed of 224km/h. Fuel economy is quoted at 6.6 litres per 100km.

The 118d Coupe meanwhile will receive a 2.0 litre turbo diesel producing 143bhp and 300Nm of torque. 0-100km/h time is quoted as 9 seconds while top speed is 210km/h. Fuel economy comes in at 4.5 litres per 100km.

Both new coupes will be fitted with BMW's EfficientDynamics technologies, which include brake energy regeneration, an engine stop-start function, a gearshift point indicator and ancillary units with on-demand management and control.

The new Lifestyle and Sport special editions available on the hatchbacks will feature unique colour schemes, 17in wheels, and special trim.
