The new car, badged 316d, will have a 2.0 litre diesel that BMW says will emit only 118g/km of CO2 emissions. Fuel economy is also said to be vastly improved, although this comes at the slight expense of performance.
The 4-cylinder diesel produces 116bhp and 260Nm of torque, enough to propel it from rest to 100km/h in 10.9 seconds, and achieving a top speed of 201km/h.
Otherwise, the 316d is mostly identical to its bigger 318d bigger brother, but will be sold at a slightly lower retail price.
