On a windy and twisty course that caught out many frontrunners, Bonhomme was in a class of his own as he had a flawless run to the Final 4 and finished the 15-gate course 1.15 seconds ahead of his rival, who picked up a two-second penalty, with American Kirby Chambliss finishing third. Pete McLeod of Canada garnered his first Championship point when he came home in 11th, delighting the 215,000 strong local support.
Arch said he was surprised to be hit with the two-second penalty. "I don't know where I got the penalty. I'm not really very happy at the moment. I wanted to win here and I have to respect the judges' decision. But I am disappointed."
Bonhomme's first victory since winning in Perth, Australia in 2008 means that he now holds the record for most race wins since the Championship began, with nine, overtaking Mike Mangold of America who has eight wins.
