Ford has announced that it plans to return to Formula One.
Come 2026, Red Bull Ford will provide the power units for both the Oracle Red Bull Racing and Scuderia AlphaTauri team, up to at least 2030.
The move mirrors that from Audi, announced in October 2022, which is also re-joining Formula One when new technical regulations mean the cars will compete with a new combustion engine, able to accept the use of fully sustainable fuels, and will come paired to a 469bhp electric motor. Ford and Red Bull Powertrains will start development work on this new powertrain by 2023.
Ford additionally states that it will provide technical expertise in all areas where it can add value to the front-running World Championship team. Areas to be explored together are in the combustion engine development and key developments like battery cell and electric motor technology, power unit control software and analytics.
