Eight-year-old Owen Erickson was hit by a Toyota Prius that he supposedly didn't hear passing by while biking with a friend.
He emerged from the accident with only minor bumps and bruises, but did end up on the hood of the Prius.
Erickson was at fault for the accident - as he he rode his bike into the path of the vehicle - but his mother, was quick to place some of the blame on the "totally silent" Prius, claiming her son never heard it coming.
As a scapegoat, the hybrid-electric vehicle is taking more than its fair share of heat.
A legislation has been introduced by the U.S. House of Representative that could require hybrid vehicles to emit a minimum amount of noise.
