Building a 1,000mph land speed record machine
05 Jan 2015|2,894 views
What does it take to build a machine capable of doing 1,000mph (approximately 1,609km/h) and break the land speed record? The team at the Bloodhound Project may just have the answer.
On track to break the current land speed with its supersonic machine 'Bloodhound SSC', the team has put together the video above to give us a glimpse of the 3,500 components required. Among them lies a Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine (like those found in the Eurofighter Typhoon), hybrid rockets from Nammo and a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 from Jaguar.
With Andy Green in the driver seat, the Bloodhound SSC will challenge the land speed record later this year in the Kalahari Desert of South Africa.
