Chevrolet's Craig Cheetham said: "The timing and location was perfect for us to launch the new Cruze hatchback. With our WTCC team in attendance providing hospitality for press, we were able to make use of the great facilities at Donington before allowing press the opportunity to test the new car on the local roads.”
The Cruze Hatchback is available with one diesel and two petrol engines in the UK. The petrol units are a 1.6-litre that produces 124bhp, and a 1.8-litre with 141bhp. The diesel powerplant meanwhile is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder which churns out 163bhp. Another 1.7-litre diesel will be added to the range in early 2012.
All engines come with a choice of a manual gearbox or a six-speed automatic transmission, and three trim levels are available for the Cruze Hatchback in the UK, LS, LT and LTZ. In base LS form the Cruze comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control, Traction Control and ABS with EBD.
The event was held at the WTCC (World Touring Car Championship) race at Donington Park, as the Chevrolet WTCC team was competing in the series. Yvan Muller managed to win both rounds in the Cruze WTCC car, extending his lead in the championship, while Chevrolet let journalists have a first drive of the car along the country roads around the circuit.
