Citroen celebrates 50th anniversary of the GS

Citroen has created a limited edition collection of textiles for the beach, pool and spa to mark the 50^th anniversary of the iconic Citroen GS.

The collection has been designed in collaboration with Boutique Les Bains, the high-end design house and boutique located within the iconic French nightlife institution Les Bains, in the heart of Paris.

Featuring the same colours and patterns used on the interior of the recently unveiled show car CitroenGS by Tristan Auer for Les Bains, the fashion line is offered as a complete collection including five individual pieces - men's and women's t-shirts, a bath towel, men's swimwear and a backpack.

The men's and women's t-shirts and the bath towel are made from 100% Ecru (French for raw) cotton, reflecting the comfort and unique design found right across Citroen's current vehicle lineup.

The collection was designed to capture the same sense of adventure and freedom associated with the original Citroen GS, and the spirit of the 1970s and 1980s. It follows the creation of the very special CitroenGS by Tristan Auer for Les Bains, which was unveiled in Paris at the Retromobile 2020 in January.

The Citroen GS was the star of the 1970 Paris Motor Show, later going on to receive the highly coveted 'European Car of the Year' title in 1971. Its success, with around 2.5 million units sold between 1970 and 1987, demonstrates the global commercial appeal of the model.

The GS recipe for success is a mid-range car with five seats, which was well adapted to the needs of its time. Built in Brittany, the GS had an outstanding exterior design. On top of that, it was fitted with hydraulic suspension, which offered comfort and road holding that its competitors could not rival.

The GSA succeeded the GS in 1979. The car adopted sizeable bumpers and a tailgate for greater practicality. It was also fitted with a 'diagnostic' socket under the bonnet, which allowed for various adjustments and checks.

Designed by leading interior designer Tristan Auer, the CitroenGS by Tristan Auer for Les Bains will be used on the road at Les Bains until 2022, where guests and the public can see the vehicle.
