The first new powerplant is a new e-HDi four-cylinder diesel unit that produces 110bhp and comes with what Citroen calls 'micro hybrid technology', which features a stop-start system and a smart alternator able to recover energy during braking. The new C5 e-HDi also has an EGS6 electronic gearbox system with steering-wheel paddles and low rolling resistance tyres, which help to boost efficiency and lower fuel consumption.
The other new engine is a 2.2-litre turbo diesel that produces 200bhp and 450Nm of torque. Mated to a six-speed automatic gearbox, this allows the C5 to go from 0-100km/h in 8.3 seconds, and on to a top speed of 230km/h. Citroen says that the facelifted C5 will go on sale by the end of this year.
