ComfortDelGro aims to add 400 new all-electric taxis to its fleet this year

ComfortDelGro Taxi has revealed that it plans to field up to 400 new all-electric taxis in Singapore by this year.
The move will make this the first sizable implementation of battery electric vehicles into the firm's taxi fleet. It had previously fielded two fully-electric Hyundai Ioniq taxis in a trial run in 2018, which was followed by an expansion of its all-electric fleet with the Hyundai Kona Electric taxi in 2019.
The new electric taxis will complement the firm's hybrid vehicles, which will comprise 70% of ComfortDelGro's taxi fleet These taxis made use of fast charging electric stations at the Group's headquarters in Braddell and Komoco Motors in Alexandra to maintain their charge.
According to The Straits Times, ComfortDelGro Taxi also has further plans to roll-out up to 1,000 all-electric taxis here in Singapore by 2023. This would make the all-electric taxis comprise up to 10% of its currently 10,000-stong vehicle fleet.
Another 70% of the firm's fleet will comprise of hybrid vehicles as the firm continues to push for a more environmentally-friendly taxi fleet.
The firm currently hosts two fast chargers at its Bradell site, alongside another two chargers rated at 100kW each at its Loyang site. There are plans to expand its charger count to 20 by the end of 2022.
The move also comes just months after SMRT Taxis started the roll-out of its fleet of 300 MG5 EV taxis here in Singapore.
