Daihatsu, which is partly-owned by Toyota, has released first details about the new small concept car, which it calls the D-X. The carmaker claims that the D-X concept can easily be transformed into four different types of vehicles simply by swapping out parts of its resin-based body. The four body styles include a roadster, a shooting-break-like hatchback, a two-door crossover and a track-racer. In standard roadster form, the Daihatsu D-X concept measures 3,395mm long, 1,475mm wide and 1,275mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,230mm
Under the bonnet, the D-X concept is powered by a 660cc two-cylinder engine with direct-injection and turbocharging technologies, which are borrowed from Daihatsu's regular production models. Daihatsu will release more information when the Tokyo Motor Show opens at the end of November.
