Honda to end production of the Civic Type R sedan

Honda says it will stop production of the Civic Type R four-door sedan at the end of August 2010, which is currently being built at Honda's factory in Suzuka, Japan. The previous generation Civic Type R sedan was built at Honda's British factory in Swindon, UK.

The four-door Civic Type R is powered by a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine with an uprated power output of 225bhp, which is sent to the front wheels via a six-speed manual transmission. This compares with the British-built three-door hatchback model which puts out 201bhp.

The Type R badge is applied to Honda's high-performance models, and was first seen on the NSX supercar back in 1992. The Civic Type R debuted in 1997, and has become a cult classic since its introduction.
