Infiniti contemplates GT-R-based flagship

Rumour has it that Infiniti is conceptualising a flag-ship performance model based on the Nissan GT-R. The GT-R is well-received with its impressive performance, yet relatively lower retail price. Technologically sound too, with an accomplished all-wheel drive system that brings about great traction.
Speaking at an interview with CAR, Infiniti Advanced Planning chief Francois Bancon said, "We have three or four proposals we are looking at right now Of course, automakers create lots of internal proof-of-concept models that never see the light of day, so having proposals doesn't necessarily have any bearing on what might make production. It would have to be softer than the GT-R."
Bancon also pointed out, "You can't easily tweak the GT-R to deliver the sophisticated, more refined performance we would need on an Infiniti."
For now, only time will tell if Infiniti’s version of the GT-R will materialise. In the meantime, a smaller model is in the pipelines, scheduled for 2015.
