Vettel was using one of the two latest RB6 front wings which were available, as his original broke during the final practice session. Mark Webber, though visibly dejected on losing out on the pole, said the team was happy with the result. The Spaniard, Fernando Alonso will be hoping Spain, as such, as an enthralling day on the 11th of July, as his home country faces Netherlands in the FIFA World Cup finals, and as for him, being placed no.3 in the starting grid for Sunday's race. Alonso clocked a lap time of 1m 30.426 in his Ferrari, the only timing anywhere close to the Red Bulls. Hamilton, the local boy drove like a hero to clinch on to a highly contested 4th place with 1m 30.556s whilst Nico Rosberg, in his Mercedes came up close to Hamilton with 1m 30.625s, and thereby 5th.
Q1 made it clear that Q3 would require a stunning pace, and henceforth, Vettel set the race times rolling right from Q1 clocking a massive 1m 30.841s, only again, slightly nosing ahead of teammate Webber, who clocked 1m 30.858s. It was a partial heartbreak for the Mclarens as one of the contenders for the championship, Jenson Button, came in at a poor 14th in Q2 on 1m 31.699s. Quite clearly not the race position which Button would have wanted!
All said and done, this Sunday seems to be a sporting fan's delight, with the British GP and the World Cup Finals. Stay indoors and catch all the action!
