JLR confirms electric future for its Nitra plant

Jaguar Land Rover has confirmed that its plant in Nitra, Slovakia will produce electric vehicles as part of the firm's Reimagine Strategy that will see it launching nine new electric vehicles by 2030.
The new comes as the plant marks its fifth anniversary, after having seen a total of 365,000 examples of the 365,000 examples of the Defender and Discovery being built. Jaguar Land Rover states that the Defender has been a particular success for the firm, marking itself out as its bestselling models for the last two financial years.
Jaguar Land Rover states that it will invest close to $25billion (£15billion) over the next five years to electrify its Range Rover (catch our review of the Range Rover here), Defender, Jaguar, and Discovery brands. The investment will also be utilised to allow it to reach a carbon net zero status by 2039.
The firm's Halewood plant will become its first all-electric production facility, while Solihull will produce electric Range Rover, Range Rover Sport, and Jaguar models. The firm's Engine Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton will build Electric Drive Units, and Castle Bromwich will be repurposed to build body panels for electric vehicles. The firm has additionally opened a new $416million (£250million) Future Energy Lab in Whitley, Coventry in the U.K., to develop Electric Drive Units for the company in house.
