The Aventador was revealed at a Geneva pre-show event, after numerous pictures of the new Italian supercar was leaked through the press in the days running up to its official launch. The full name of the car is the Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4, with 700 denoting the horsepower it produces and 4 standing for four-wheel-drive.
The Aventador is built from a carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) monocoque structure, which keeps the weight of the car down to a mere 1575kg. The 6.5-litre V12 engine churns out 700bhp and 690Nm of torque. A 7-speed independent shift rod transmission with dual synchronizers supplied by Graziano Trasmissioni Group sends the power to all four wheels via a Haldex all-wheel drive system, and provides quick shifts of just 50 milliseconds between gears. This means that the Aventador goes from 0-100km/h in 2.9 seconds, on to a top speed of 350km/h.
The Aventador also features a self-locking rear differential and ESP-controlled front differential to help with managing the power that is sent to the wheels. The Drive Select Mode System features three settings, Strada or Road, Sport, and Corsa or Track, which adjusts the vehicle's characteristics accordingly to each situation. An F1-derived pushrod suspension and aluminium wishbones keeps the car stable and planted, while the carbon ceramic disc brakes ensures that the Aventador is able to cope with coming to a stop from in excess of 300km/h.
The Lamborghini Aventador is fully customisable to each customer's needs, but standard equipment includes front, head-thorax and knee airbags, which complement the rigid one-piece carbon fibre shell. There is also aTFT-LCD screen that provides readouts and car information, similar to the system found on the Reventon. The unique Arancio Argos orange paintwork in pearl effect from the show car is also available, as well as the two-tone Alcantara upholstery.
