Lamborghini recently inaugurated a new multi-story industrial building mainly for prototype development and pre-series vehicles. It is also the first structure in Italy to earn a Class A energy certification. Corrado Clini, Minister of the Environment, Land and Sea; Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini; Daniela Occhiali, Mayor of Sant'Agata Bolognese, among others were present during the inauguration ceremony. The occasion signifies a development in Lamborghini's strategy towards environmental sustainability besides sending a positive message to the recovery of the Emilia region, which was recently hit hard by earthquakes. Lamborghini has since made donations to rebuild five school laboratories and announced a part of proceeds from Lamborghini's 50th anniversary celebratory events to be held in 2013 will be contributed to help rebuild damaged cultural treasures and places of worship.
"Our new building confirms Lamborghini's commitment not only to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency, but also to advanced technology and innovation with an eye on the future. The earthquakes that recently struck our region caused serious problems that have placed a considerable strain on us, on our families, and on our local area. However, we know that the strength to begin a new springs from the daily commitment and the work that each of us brings to bear. That's why today's inauguration also has a symbolic meaning of renaissance and of a strong impetus for recovery," said Stephan Winkelmann, President and CEO of Lamborghini."Inaugurating a sustainable, antiseismic industrial building here today at Lamborghini, in the heart of the area struck by the earthquake, sends an important signal. It expresses the strong, determined desire to move forward that is evident in the Emilia area,” commented Corrado Clini, Minister of Environment, Land and Sea.
The industrial building was specially developed in cooperation with Prospazio engineering studio, to earn the Class A industrial energy rating which was achieved through latest solutions and techniques. The facade for example, consists of walls made of triple-layer polycarbonate and ventilated walls layered with ultrathin ceramic that provides high thermal insulation. The new building is also built to current anti-seismic regulations and is equipped with a photovoltaic system that generates electricity, a feature which will become customary at all new Lamborghini buildings.
A highly advanced "mini" assembly line has been set on the second floor which mirrors a standard production line. The mini line can also be utilised to build a small number of vehicles of up to 20 units.
