Land Rover confirms LRX for production

The production version of the LRX will have the same sporty and aggressive styling cues from the LRX concept, and is expected to go into production in 2011. The LRX is expected to be built at Land Rover's Halewood factory in the UK, and sold in more than 100 countries.

According to Land Rover design director, Gerry McGovern, "The new vehicle will be a natural extension to the Range Rover line-up, complementing the existing models and helping to define a new segment. It will be true to the concept and have many recognizable Range Rover design cues including the signature clamshell bonnet, the floating roof and the solid 'wheel-at-each-corner' stance."

While details are still scarce, Land Rover says that the LRX will be "™the smallest, lightest and most efficient vehicle the company has ever produced." Engine options could include a 2.2 litre turbo diesel with 160bhp and 400Nm of torque, and a 3.2 litre inline-six petrol engine with 230bhp and 317Nm. There could even be a 2.0 litre turbo diesel hybrid powerplant available for the LRX.
