The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has appointed an Independent Advisory Panel (IAP) to review the power supply system for all MRT and LRT lines, it said in a press release, reported The Straits Times.
The panel comprises international specialists in power supply systems, including representatives from an overseas operator and equipment design specialists.
Mr. Chew Men Leong, Chief Executive Officer, LTA, said, "We have appointed an IAP which comprises distinguished professionals to give the power supply system a thorough health check. This is part of our continuous effort to improve and upgrade the rail system to meet the needs of the commuting public. We are confident that the Panel's recommendations will help LTA determine the necessary actions to minimise power-related incidents and enhance overall reliability."
In addition to assessing the condition of current equipment, the IAP will also examine how the existing protection settings and maintenance practices could be adjusted, if at all, to better factor in changes to passenger loading, network expansion and impact to operations caused by increased interfacing with other systems.
The panel will report on the resilience of the current power supply system and consider international best practices in providing its recommendations to LTA. LTA will study the IAP recommendations and look into how these can be implemented to enhance the resilience of the power supply system.
