Mercedes-Benz has released an official statement that it will discontinue production of its one-of-a-kind G500 4x4² off-road luxury beast. It will accept orders through the end of October in the United States.
Developed for extreme off-road use and unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the G500 4x4² is basically a shorter, more practical version of the G 63 AMG 6x6, with the third axle removed. It features portal axles that position the wheels lower on the axle heads due to the portal transmission. The suspension increases the approach and departure angles from 30 degrees to 51.6 degrees and 43.8 degrees, respectively, with a breakover angle nearly doubled to 47.4 degrees.
The vehicle is powered by a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged V8 that kicks out 422bhp and 610Nm of torque.
